Scrapbook 2

Having been so impressed with the Ringing World 1911 - 1941 disc that I got for my birthday in 2011, I got the new Bell News disc that Christmas, though it wasn't until 2013 that I started to build up a second large scrapbook of cuttings. At 103 cuttings, this is even larger than the RW scrapbook, and includes some really entertaining snippets, all about Worcestershire ringers, towers, bell-projects, letters, compositions, etc. Some of the larger extracts may have to be opened as pdf files.

BN 1898. Unfortunately, I think this is false!

BN 17th August 1895.

BN 1882

BN 1889. Account of a peal at Hanbury

BN 1890

BN 1890. An outing to the Upton area. Interestingly, the bells at Upton-on-Severn were still in the 'Pepperpot' at this point - the distinctive continental style tower of the old church, which still stands today. Though the new church was built in 1878, the bells weren't transferred there until their augmentation to eight in 1902.

BN 1891. Chance remark about a peal at St. Helen's, Worcester in 1824

BN 1891. About territorial associations

BN 1891. Problems with the bells at St. Helen's, Worcester

BN 1891. J's venomous response

BN 1891. Letter from John Smith about the sudden unavailability of Worcester towers for AGM day

BN 1891. Peals analysis for the WDCRA, with a friendly criticism of Worcester ringing from the editor (himself a Wigornian)

BN 1891. Letter from William Page about the difficulty of arranging ringing at Worcester towers. The church that Page generally refers to is St. Helen's. Interesting reference to an augmentation at St. John's the following autumn - this didn't actually happen until 1930

BN 1891. Lost peal at Bromsgrove

BN 1891. Lost peal of Holt's Original at St. Helen's, Worcester

BN 1891. Meeting at Pershore and ringing in South Worcestershire

BN 1895. I added in the first single at Wrong, as this had been omitted from the original. Rung at St. Helen's, Worcester that year (possibly reduced to 5152.) It was the first time in decades that a peal had been rung in the City of Worcester conducted by its composer

BN 1897. William Page cobbler request

BN 1898

BN 1898. Editorial taking the Worcester clergy to task for the state of the rings of bells in the city

BN 1898. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the first peal in Hereford (1840) was rung by a Worcester band. The first peal of Surprise in Hereford (1925) was also rung by a largely West Worcestershire band

BN 1898. WDCRA quarterly meeting at Stourbridge, with some tension

BN 1899

BN 1900. Letter from William Page about handbell ringing
